In ALL of my research, including peer-reviewed journal articles, I have NEVER come across a piece more honest, useful, and downright scary as what you will find on this site: http://tvtno.org/the-facts/surgical-mesh-and-autoimmune-disease-connection/ Granted it was written with more of a focus on transvaginal mesh but that mesh is made out of the same materials as hernia mesh so the article has great applicability to the world of hernia repair. I feel this is must read for all you who are suffering from mesh in one way or another - or perhaps in ways that you might not even be aware. It also presents many things to consider before you decide on what type of repair you want to get. I myself have vacillated between being both a strong advocate for mesh and one of its biggest opponents. I guess I feel that both approaches certainly have their advantages and disadvantages. One thing I will say is that if people are going to get implanted with mesh then it behooves the medical community to do much better in developing pre-surgical tests with perhaps a shard of the mesh to test each person's reaction to it from an allergic standpoint, foreign body/fibrotic reaction, etc. I would be interested in your experiences and reactions to this article. By Rita Rubinmsnbc.com contributor updated 7/26/2011 9:48:19 AM ET Janet Holt figured she simply had an infection “down there.” But instead of a prescription, her doctor told her she’d need a procedure. Her bladder had slipped out of place, creating an uncomfortable condition known as pelvic organ prolapse, which affects many women as they age. Her doctor said he could fix it, building a kind of nest or cradle to prop up her insides. Holt doesn’t remember him ever mentioning that he was going to use something called surgical mesh to do the job. But he was the doctor, so Holt, a 50-year-old from San Antonio, Texas, agreed to the operation. http://www.nzwomansweekly.co.nz/your-stories/weekly-people/jacqui-scott-i-want-my-life-back/
Jacqui Scott: “I want my life back”By Aroha Awarau on 18th November, in Weekly People, Women's Health, Your Stories and to hear her own words the link below will help https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X38dZaXLz5E&feature=youtu.bere Watching rape victim Jacqui Scott move around her tiny Napier flat is heartbreaking. Every little step, every small movement, the excruciating pain is etched on the 61-year-old’s face – it feels like a knife slicing through her body. Jacqui’s physical trauma is a remnant of the horrific rape she survived in 2005. Her internal injuries were so severe, a nine-hour operation was required, inserting two surgical mesh units inside her to fix a vaginal prolapse. The procedure was meant to help, but instead it ruined Jacqui’s life, as the mesh is eroding and causing havoc inside her body. Joleen Chambers

Economic Injustice For Victims Of Transvaginal Mesh ProceduresWhy Should You Be Concerned? The latest trend in economic thinking has shifted the view of many towards a “for profit” model; this line of thinking has recently also started to spread into the health care sector. In the past, health care was relatively isolated from this type of thinking. Hospitals and medical clinics were largely run as charitable organizations that were built to serve the community. During the last 20 years, the medical community has gone through a fundamental shift; the number of for-profit health care facilities has exploded at a rate that is growing quicker than the technology sector. This is great for business profits, but the quality of care that people receive has suffered. Faulty implants end women's sex lifeBy Eleanor BradfordBBC Scotland Health CorrespondentShona Trainer said the pain was constant after having the mesh implant
Two women who were severely injured by commonly-used surgical implants have revealed their stories ahead of mass legal action against the manufacturer. Both women have been told they can never have sex again after having a surgical device implanted to treat a prolapsed bladder. |
