EVERYONE NEEDS TO READ THIS!February 28 2014 at 5:41 PM Jerry
from IP address 24.0.45.246Ok - those of you who have continually seen my name in this forum know of my interest in the area of hernias - not only as a suffering patient but also as an academician/researcher/author. In ALL of my research, including peer-reviewed journal articles, I have NEVER come across a piece more honest, useful, and downright scary as what you will find on this site:
http://tvtno.org/the-facts/surgical-mesh-and-autoimmune-disease-connection/
Granted it was written with more of a focus on transvaginal mesh but that mesh is made out of the same materials as hernia mesh so the article has great applicability to the world of hernia repair.
I feel this is must read for all you who are suffering from mesh in one way or another - or perhaps in ways that you might not even be aware. It also presents many things to consider before you decide on what type of repair you want to get. I myself have vacillated between being both a strong advocate for mesh and one of its biggest opponents. I guess I feel that both approaches certainly have their advantages and disadvantages. One thing I will say is that if people are going to get implanted with mesh then it behooves the medical community to do much better in developing pre-surgical tests with perhaps a shard of the mesh to test each person's reaction to it from an allergic standpoint, foreign body/fibrotic reaction, etc.
I would be interested in your experiences and reactions to this article.
